- Summary
- This United States Information Agency (USIA) study was conducted in February and March of 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In its survey of 466 respondents aged 18+, the study explored respondent attitudes toward Brazilian national affairs such as standard of living, population control, Brazilian political parties and their leaders, Brazil's stand in the conflict between communist and anti-communist ideologies. Variables concerned with international affairs examined the respondents' views on the achievements and foreign policies of the United States and the Soviet Union, as well as respondent opinions about the nuclear test ban and disarmament, the position of the United Nations, and respondent attitudes towards the Alliance for Progress. The study also focused on Fidel Castro and his impact on life in Cuba in addition to his influence on Brazil, and the treatment of Blacks in France, the United States, the Soviet Union, and South Africa. Demographic data include the respondents' occupation, marital status, sex, age, and education
