- Summary
- Although women are playing an increasingly important economic role in their families, communities and society and often carry the burden of economic and reproductive labor, they are less likely than men to take time off, and their health and well-being is suffering as a consequence. This workshop will provide: * Information regarding time off for the average woman worker in the United States * Recommended ways to maximize time off for self-care * Shared personal experience and learnings from my own process of taking a 3-month sabbatical. Jessica González-Rojas is the Executive Director at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH). She has been a leader in progressive movements for two decades, successfully forging connections between reproductive health, gender, immigration, LGBTQ liberation, labor, and Latino civil rights. She is a frequent contributor to El Diario/La Prensa, MSNBC, and HuffPost on pressing reproductive health issues in the Latina community, as well as a regular media voice in local and national outlets. Jessica sits on the board of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and serves in an advisory role with the Anna Julia Cooper Center{u2019}s Intersectional Research Agenda, Law Students for Reproductive Justice, and Emily{u2019}s List. She was also a member of the steering committee for the New York City Council{u2019}s Young Women{u2019}s Initiative. Jessica and NLIRH have been honored for their work by the National Women{u2019}s Law Center, Emily{u2019}s List, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, Latina magazine, Cosmo for Latinas, the National Council of Jewish Women, Latism, and El Diario/La Prensa. Jessica is an adjunct professor of public service at the New York University{u2019}s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and of Latino and Latin American studies at the City University of New York. She holds a master{u2019}s degree in public administration from New York University{u2019}s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and a certificate from the Institute for Not-for-Profit Management at Columbia University{u2019}s Graduate School of Business
