Summary
In 1990, defense attorney Juan Tarna and former military prosecutor Menéndez meet on a train, and over supper they recall the past--the turbulent, somewhat distant final days of Franco when both of them knew Gloria. In 1975, Gloria had arrived in Madrid intent on saving the life of her brother Fito, who stood accused of being one of three men who had assassinated a police officer in Madrid. Tarna had defended Fito, while Menéndez had opposed him as prosecutor
